Starting at an enormous AU$215,000 (excluding on-roads), the Maserati Quattroporte sure has a lot to prove particularly in such a niche market.

At that price point, stock features include adaptive cruise control, collision and lane departure warnings, emergency braking, rear traffic alert, blind spot alert, rear and 360 degree camera, as well as an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Theย Quattroporte also has a 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. It may seem impressive, but don’t be fooled, these features are common amongst much, much cheaper cars. To put that into perspective, when I read about all these ‘amazing’ features, I instantly thought of the new Ford Focus Titanium, which has very very similar features.

The engine has been upgraded to a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with 257kW of power and 500Nm of torque. That much power is definitely needed to pull the 5-metre, 1860kg saloon.

On the plus side, the ride comfort is incomparable to many other high-performance saloons. It glides across any road with ease and makes you feel royal in your Maserati and all its Italian glory. But, that all changes once you click that Sport Mode button. Improved engine note, suspension and handling makes it any revheads dream.

In comparison the BMW M5, Audi RS5 and Mercedes-AMG E63, theย Quattroporte is much more tame, and can seem quite.. Monotonous, but at the end of the day, that Maserati badgeย keeps it one notch above the rest of the pack.
